It Includes the distance, shape, and material, if there were the requirements of detection, tracking and friend-or-foe confirmation at the same time, the phase radar is the best choice.

Active is the best choice

Phase array radar can be designed as passive type and active type. the passive phase radar used a single transmitter module and a matrix receiver to achieve object detection. The active phase radar creates the compact element that can transmit and receive at the same time independently, it can convert the analog signal to digital one with a time stamp directly, and also provides more reliable analysis, than passive type phase radar.

FPGA based Radar System

The DSP system of phase radar must not only have high speed computing and high bandwidth data transmission capabilities, the size, weight, and even power consumption of the system(SWaP) also be restricted. Normally, the larger DSP system for ship and the smaller one on the aircraft to achieve the best system capacity planning. Since the FPGA features are combined with specially designed IP and the highest computing capability per power consumption among all processors, It is the best choice for phase radars. To shorten the MTBR of the DSP system more convenient, the VPX standard proposed by the VITA organization is selected as the specification for the phase radar system is the best fit one.
