After years of VME and CompactPCI systems dominating the defense/aerospace applications, the parallel bus bandwidth becomes a limit to users. Compared to traditional VME and CompactPCI systems, VPX could extend the bandwidth to a very high-performance serial bus architecture. This increases the performance by only replacing the parallel bus with a high-speed serial bus, in the mean time, providing higher data-transfer rates.
